News: Get a Siberian Kitten of your very own!
With the exception of some rare colors they are all accepted including the controversial color-point Siberian (also known as Neva Masquerade). We choose to breed only the Traditional Siberian Cats and not the color-point. For those interested in a kitten to call their own all these technical color names can be down right confusing and we hope that by sharing the colors we have in our cattery (or have seen in our kittens) we can help you better understand the colors available to you and your family.
Color is a big part of what endears these cats to us but one should never forget that the proper friendly personality, unrivaled health and quality, and genetic diversity are as important when choosing your next pet. Always remember that pretty colors make up only one part of the beauty that is the whole of the Siberian Cat.

Golden Siberian Cats are a rare and precious color, difficult to find and difficult to breed successfully. Few catteries have the distinction of producing this amazing coloring in the correct way, along with excellent help and extraordinary type but we have been blessed to obtain kittens from these catteries.
It is our hope to produce Golden Siberian Cats for the owner that wants the truly unique, rare, and breathtaking beauty that only the golden coloring can provide. Until then we will be proud owners and show hopefuls with our imported Golden Siberian Cat, Esenia Auric from Russia and our golden carrier cats.
Golden Siberian Cats are exceedingly rare and we hope you get the pleasure of seeing one in person. Though beautiful in photographs the camera cannot quite catch the multifaceted color and the luminous quality of their coats. They littery sparkle.

Our cattery is fairly well known for producing reds (orange tabby Siberian cats). There are many shades of red including red silver, red shaded silver, cream silver, cream shaded silver. Please visit our Orange Siberian Cats Page for examples of these lovely colors.

This lovely girl is a red silver classic and white Siberian kitten.

Red can be an intese brick color to a pale peachy orange. Various genes control the expression of each individual color but the overall red gene is on the x chromosome and always passed on from the mother for male kittens and the father and mother in female kittens.
Red females (Orange tabby Siberian Cat females) are somewhat rare but not for us! We've been blessed at Pendraig Siberian Cats to have quite a few lovely red girls. So far we've had 6 red females in our first 6 litters!
Red is so fascinating. It has many names all over the world. In England they call them "ginger toms" or "ginger cats". Of course they also call redheads "gingers". In the United States we often hear "Tiger Striped" or "orange tigers" or "orange tabbys" from interested kitten buyers. Whatever you call them, there is nothing in this world like a red Siberian Cat!!

Along with the reds comes the torbie and tortie kittens! Most commonly called Calico and Tortoisehell by veterinarians and pet owners these cats are a lovely mix of red or cream and black or blue. They can also have silver or smoke shading and white spotting! To see some examples of some lovely Calico Siberians please visit our Calico Siberian Cats section.
At Pendraig Siberian Cats we love the Calicos and Tortoushell cats (Torbie and Tortie, or patched in CFA). Our first females were torbies/torties. Sonja's mother was a lovely brown mackerel torbie Siberian cat.
Lizzie is a striking and unusally colored Calico. She also has the inhibitor gene (Smoke Siberian Cat gene) but it doesn't seem to affect some areas of her fur which are a lovely dark color that sets off the lighter patches. The result is a cat that is completley original and unbelievably beautiful. We even had the great pleasure of cat sitting her while her family moved to a new house.
Calico can take on many forms with the addition of silver or smoke or dilute. The wonderful world of Calicos is one of our favorites and we enjoy sharing the Calico and Tortoushell Siberian Cats with you!
Some names you might see for Torbie and Tortie Siberian Cats are: Patched Tabbies, Calico Siberian Cat, Tortoiseshell Siberian Cat, and others!
These cats are known for something called "torbietude"! They are often dominant, and intelligent cats who like to be the one in charge. This is usually fine with "ginger" cats as they are laid back... like the Fonz... but it can be challenging if you have another bossy female in the house.
We love them, and the Torbietude just makes them even more endearing for us. Calico Siberian Cats Rule!

Pendraig Aslan SunFire -- Red Silver Shaded Siberian Cat

Silvers are glamerous and have a sheen to their coat. They are usually shades of "grey" but sometimes you can get red silvers, or torbie silvers as well. Once in awhile we are blessed with a Shaded Silver Siberian cat such as Aslan or his daughter Sophie (Pendraig Clara Aslanovna SunFire). Please visit our Silver Siberian Cats section for some lovely photos of our silver cats and kittens.
When a silver is shaded the undercoat is very pale and white and extends far out to at least the midline of each hair. The tips of the hairs are all silver (or blue or red silver) which gives the cat an almost frosted look. There is an even whiter type of silver known as "Chinchilla" but so far we have not had any in our Siberian Cattery!
Silver sparkles in the sunlight and it can dazzle your eyes when your silver Siberian Cat sleeps in the window. Their coat sparkles as if it was made of diamonds.
Silver is one of our favorites also because of that sparkle the hairs get. We love to sit and admire it on a bright and sunny afternoon. Cats really are a miracle of creation!
Smokes are related to Silvers but do not have stripes. To visualize this consider the black cat but instead of having solid black fur all the way to the roots the cat has instead white or very pale grey coloring of all the roots. This gives a smokey appearance, thus they are called "Smoke". Smoke can be applied to all solid colors such as Blue or Black. Please see our Smoke Siberians Section for photos.
Our lovely boy Grisha is a fantastic smoke. In the right light he appears to sparkle in his under coat that is only enhanced by the inky black tips of his fur. Smokes are fairly rare as the solid gene (no stripes) is needed. They can also be difficult to photograph as the untrained photographer can make what is a sparkling and amazing smoke coat look drab in theh photos. We hope we can get professional photos of Grisha done soon so you can see the dazzle and sultry beauty of a gorgeous black smoke.
Lizzie (Pendraig Brusnika Aslanovna SunFire), one of our kittens from Aslan and Lily's Siberian Kitten Litter, is a very unusual smoke. She has areas that have no smoke at all with areas of "high" smoke that in a striped cat would likely be shaded silver. She also has cream silver areas growing in that were previously white. For awhile this gave her a tear stained look until enough grew in to cover both cheeks. Lizzie is a lovely and unsual girl that is striking and totally one of a kind!
We also have Pendraig Godava Aslanovna SunFire. She is a rare and unusual smoke calico. At birth her patternw as called "van". She had only small patches of color on her head and her back (and tail). As she matures she is developing some cream silver areas and may not be a van at all when fully grown. Only time will tell.
Often underrated and under valued the lovely and warm brown tabbies can be some of the most gorgeous Siberian cats around. The warmer the undercoat the more they appear to be almost golden! Brown tabby Siberian cats can come in a variety of shades from a cold greyish undercoat to a very warm, almost apricot under coat. The stripes can be Mackerel Tabby (like fish bones or tiger striped Siberian Cats) or it can be the swirls and blots of the Classic Brown Tabby Siberian Cat. They can also, rarely, be lovely spotted tabby Siberian Cats like our girl Dica.
We love the brown tabby Siberian Cats. They look the most like a wild forest cat and fit the breed's history the best. Some purist breeders feel only the Brown Tabby Siberian cat is a true Siberian cat but we know better. It is possibly an ideal color for this forest cat breed but nature takes many turns and has supplied us with a bounty of colors. Just as in wild horses, the browns may be dominant colors in the herd you will still see rare and unusual colors that blaze in the evening sun.

Cica Yuliana Yaroslavovna Black-- Blue Siberian Kitten Julia
Photo by Helmi Flick © 2007
The dilute gene just takes the normal black colors and fades them to blue! It takes the orange tabby and turns them cream. This can make a lovely smoke grey color that breeders refer to as blue and of course the lovely cream. Some of the most beautiful calicos are dilute with blue and cream patches matched with white.
Our girl Julia is a a deep and intese Blue Solid Siberian Cat. So far we've not had many dilute kittens but we hope to in the future! One of our loveliest tabbies is Eowyn a very sweet and adorable Blue spotted Tabby Siberian Kitten.
The dilute cats have a softness to their color that is very appealing. It is also much more rare than the standard, non-dilute colors.
Blue is also very difficult to photograph, like black. In these photos of Julia as a kitten Helmi Flick, a very talented photograher, has managed to catch the true beauty of a blue coat. You can see the richness of the color and also the coolness of the blue. Often in home photos the blue can appear drab because of improper lighting but don't let it fool you! Just as in these photos by Helmi Flick in person these dilutes can take your breath away!
More coming soon.... =)
